Cg, I've never prepared geoduck at home but many years ago I had some at a restaurant in Seattle. It was served to me as a chowder and part of it was also served raw. It was quite tasty! The key, I was told, is to eat it when it's as fresh as possible.

i guess from the Dirty Jobs youtube, these gooey ducks are being " farmed " in Washington state

i wonder what startup costs would be ?

like raising catfish in a barrel, could someone raise gooey ducks in a barrel ?

I can think of lots of foods that fresh isn't the key.

Here's just one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk

Re: Gooey Ducks ?

Clams were the "steady eddie" survival food for american natives. Shellpiles were present at villages all across the country. A food I have always kept in mind, and nobody else never ever mentions. Had to fall back on them once for a couple weeks when I got robbed down on the caribbean coast of Guatamala in the early 70s. Begged a little salt and rice off other hippies and dug clams and picked a few wild hot peppers.............ate pretty well till I got some money sent down to me. By the way the f.......n american embassy was no help, the canadians were.

Sorry, there always seems to be exceptions to the rule, but, if I have to alter/specifically treat a food to make it digest easier, or kill it's poisons, I'd rather not eat it. BTW, vegetable don't need to be treated, nor do fruit, nuts, etc.

Well, I wouldn't recommend eating raw cashews. Different tastes for different folks. That's part of what makes us all individuals.

I must have typed something that upset you. If I did, I apologize.

They're huge here on the Oregon coast. I've dug them, but never eaten them. I hate shellfish!

Well, supposedly cashews have to be treated....baked if you will....before they can be eaten. Something about an oil they have that will give skin rashes, etc. This is before they go to market.

Not so?

No, I'm not upset. Just saying there's always exceptions to the rule. In general, everythings better fresh....:ok:
